Student Excellence & Leadership

An asset-based program focused on developing student academic, social, and personal excellence.

The Student Excellence and Leadership (SEL) Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Student Support Services TRIO Program.

Program Mission

The Student Excellence and Leadership (SEL) Program at Beloit College is an asset-based program focused on developing student academic, social, and personal excellence within a liberal arts setting.

As a four-year program we are committed to working with students from the time they step foot onto campus for Summer Institute until they walk across the stage at graduation. We believe that first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds and/or those who have documented disabilities bring essential and much needed assets with them to college. These assets help deepen and transform both individual student learning and the campus culture overall.

Our task as a program is to focus on those assets and help our students develop themselves as intelligent, imaginative and curious learners within the SEL community. Our community both supports and challenges our students to take ownership of their college career. We pride ourselves on being a program that puts the liberal arts into practice.

Program Objectives

  1. 90% of all participants served by SEL will persist from one academic year to the next, or will have earned a bachelor’s degree.
  2. 90% of all enrolled SEL participants served will be in good academic standing.
  3. 72% of SEL participants will graduate with a bachelor’s degree within six years.
